A requote here folks as the powers that be have decided on a definitive answer for our laptops for teachers project. Having spoken with a Toshiba Channel Partner we have decided on the following 2 models:

60x Toshiba Satellite Pro A300 {Toshiba Part Code: PSAG1E-00F004EN} (Guide price from Tosh £359 )

5x Toshiba Portégé M700-13P {Toshiba Part Code: PPM70E-0YD02DEN} (Guide price from Tosh £799)

65x 3Yr Education extended Warranties (or 60 if the M700 have a 3yr warranty as standard)

60x 1GB RAM modules compatible with the A300 (Guide price of £11.99 per module from Crucial website)

5x 1GB RAM modules compatible with the M700 (Guide Price of £13.99 per module from Crucial website)

65x Laptop bags (we prefer not to have backpacks but traditional laptop bags of good quality)

A decision is expected with in 2 weeks :-)
